Am I finished?? (part 2)

I was wheeled up to the Labor and Delivery floor of the hospital. When I stood up from the wheel chair, the nurse saw the chair and said, "you're not going anywhere." Meaning, your water is broken and we'll be having a baby today.

I changed into my gown and got into the hospital bed. The on-call doctor ordered my medicine because I was GBS positive.

GBS is an infection that effects 1 in 4 women. It does not affect the mother, but can be very dangerous to the baby.

It was not until 9:30am that the pharmacy finally got my antibiotics to my nurse. My doctor arrived at 10:30am and I still did not have any pitocin. The reason I needed pitocin is my water had broken and I was not dilated at all.

She was pretty upset that the pharmacy had not dispersed my meds and that my nurse was not trying harder to get my medicine to start the process of having a baby. 15 minutes after my doctor laid down the law, I had my pit.

I decided I wanted to enjoy this delivery and enduring that pain was more than I was wanting to do. So at 1:45pm, I got my epidural. The anesthesiologist was quite entertaining and made it very enjoyable to get the epidural.

After he was finished, he turned to me and said, "I have three things to say, first, I have you a rockin epidural. Second, you're going to relax and dilate and third, that baby's going to be here fast."

About 30 minutes later, Oswald looked at me and said, "I'm starving. I gotta get me some food, do you care?"

At this point, I sent my mom and text saying, "This is taking FOREVER!"

At this point the epidural was working great and I was completely relaxed. He left and not even 5 minutes later, I called him to tell him I wanted to push. He didn't answer, so I was called my nurse to let her know I was ready to push. She and the doctor were in my room in a matter of seconds. Dr. Lawrence checked me and said I was at a 10 and 100% effaced. I was ready to go with no husband in sight!

Dr. Lawrence said to me, "Let's think happy thoughts until he gets here!"

My phone rang and it was Oswald, "I'm ready to push, you need to get back here now!"

He got in the elevator while I was in the room being prepped to push. He walked in the room, they put my legs in the stirrups and the doctor said, "I can see her head right there, push on your next contraction."

I told her I was feeling one, she said to push and out came her head. I looked at her and said, "I'm going to push again". Everyone in the room said, "you don't need to", but I did anyway. (Those shoulders add a lot of pressure.)

She was born at 2:45pm weighing 7lbs 12oz 19 1/4inces long.

She's absolutely beautiful and a joy to have in our family. We are very blessed!

People keep asking me if I'm finished. If she is the last baby for our family to have. If she makes our family whole. To be honest, I can't answer that question. I can't say if there are not more babies in heaven for our family.

But one thing I can say is that she completes our family right now. She is where she is supposed to be. She has added an immense amount of love to our little family. I don't know what we would do without her in our family. So for now, our family is complete. Our family is whole. But if in a few more years, we feel prompted to have another baby, that's exactly what we will do.

So to answer the "are you finished question", I can't answer that one. Not today. Not definitively.
