What makes me happy

We hiked Amicalola Falls today. It's considered one of the 7 wonders of Georgia. It is breathtaking, that's a guarantee.

My day started super early, at like 4am early with a Love Bug who decided she wanted to stare into her mommy's eyes instead of going back to bed. We were up and down until 6:15am when my Little Man came in to greet us for the day.

At 7:30 the rest of the family, minus my Princess (she likes to sleep in), got up and ate breakfast, at which point, I promptly read 8am) got back in bed. I told Oswald I wanted to sleep for 30 minutes and then I would pack our picnic lunch. It was 8:35 and of course my Love Bug wanted to nurse, which put us terribly behind schedule.

Oh well, that's life with a newborn, right?

We got to the falls at around 10:45 and started walking. The kids, all 6 of them who walked, were quite troopers. We climbed up a straight path for probably 1/3 of a mile, then climbed 145 stairs to a landing (which is the backdrop for this picture), then walked another 1/4 mile to a parking lot. I am pleased to say that my kiddos did great. We'll probably be going back again soon!

As for what makes me happy, these 4 kids make me happy.

Even though I hate getting up at night to nurse, I love being with my Love Bug and I love being the only one who can provide her with what she needs, and I love knowing that for right now, she really needs her mommy!

Even though I hate playing the "up and down" game each night at bedtime, I love the sweet hugs and kisses I get from my Little Man each and every time he gets out of bed. I love that he thinks my kiss will cure every ailment. And I love that he wants to snuggle with me every chance he gets.

Even though her whining is sometimes incessant, I love having a daughter. I love how she and I can talk about anything, how we watch silly shows together, how we talk about what it's like when I was a kid, and I especially love that she wants to be just like me when she gets big.

Even though I hate those sad eyes he does when he's told "no", I love how smart my Buddy is. I love to hear him read (even if it's my text messages!). I love to see him play with his little brother! I love how sweet he is and how he knows right from wrong.

These four kids make me the happiest Mommy in the world! I am so lucky to have them in my life! And I am even luckier that I have a wonderful husband who has given me such amazing kids and who has helped me become a mother.

To my mom and mother-in-law, thank you for your sacrifices to raise Oswald and me and to help us become who we are. We would not be an eternal family if it wasn't for your hands in our lives. Thank you for your example of what a mother should be and for how a mother should be treated. We are truly blessed to have you both in our lives.

Happy Mother's Day!

Ps. I bet you wish your 4 week post-baby body rocked like mine does! I can't believe I went out in public like this!

  2. I think you are a "Rock Star" mom! Enjoy ever minute and every bump along the road of motherhood. It gives you character and some fun family stories to tell. I think there are many quotes that speak to us at different times if our life. What doesn't kill us makes us stronger was one of mine when kids were young and full of energy! I am proud of you and all you are. Happy Mother's day everyday!
